Tutorial - Simple Bento by sake-bento Tutorial - Simple Bento by sake-bento
A lot of people have been asking how I pack bento. Well...really I just put lots of food in a box. You kinda get the hang of it after lots of practice. ^_^;; But here's a simple layout you can follow with some ideas for each of the portions. Hopefully this is helpful. ^-^

Awesome! I wanted to start making bento lunches for my wife, this definitely helps! Was a little intimidated by all the fancy references I've seen so far.

:wow: Dude, I never thought it was that simple! Still, I'd like a Hello Kitty (Chococat or Badtz-Maru to be precise) Bento box. The shipping is so expensive, though on Ebay.

And Glad/Tupperware boxes look... bad. I'd have to draw on it. And get tupperware that would fit a Dome lunchbox.

Kya~~thanks so much :heart: I would love to this x3 and this looks really helpful. May I ask, what is hoisin sauce?

It's a sweet sauce, sometimes called plum sauce (although there's not always plum in it...). You could easily use something like teriyaki sauce for a similar effect.

Well, my favorite part about bento is the fact that it's a great way to get rid of leftovers that are just hanging around. ::nodnod:: If you do that instead you'll have a lot less cooking to worry about.

I know Tamago is egg...but what is Tamagoyaki?

It's sweet rolled omelette (like the one here: [link]). It's a very common bento staple since it's simple and tasty.

Um, to an extent. Sometimes at sushi places, you'll see an "omelette" sushi. That's what it tastes like. ^_^;;
